Do You Need Restorative Dentistry? Part Two

Are you still not sure if you really need restorative treatment, to deal with a dental issue such as a cavity, a chip or irritated gums? Many people postpone dental visits, thinking that their problems may go away given time. Unfortunately, teeth are not like many other parts of the body. They cannot repair themselves the way your skin often can, for instance. This makes restorative dentistry necessary when you are dealing with dental issues. So if you suspect you could have a problem, it is best to schedule a visit with your restorative dentist. That way you can protect your teeth, and restore your oral health quickly and efficiently.

Don’t Delay Treatment When You Notice Potential Problems

The longer you delay a dental visit, the more likely it becomes that extensive restorative treatment will be required. For example, an untreated cavity can often be corrected through a simple dental filling, if it is detected early. The longer it is allowed to progress, however, the more likely a root canal will be necessary.

If a damaged tooth becomes infected, and remains untreated, it can lead to the need for an extraction, which would then require a prosthetic replacement tooth.

With restorative treatment, though, many dental issues can be corrected, including cavities, infections, chips, cracks and otherwise weakened or damaged teeth. So it is in the best interest of your smile to seek treatment as soon as possible, if you suspect there is an issue threatening your oral health. This becomes especially important if it has been more than six months since your last dental visit.
