If you are looking to find some fun and educational ways to fill your kids’ last few weeks of summer break, not to mention to beat the heat with some air conditioned good times, look no further than the Houston Public Library, which is hosting a variety of activities for kids of all ages. Many of their events and programs are centered around the goal of helping to create life-long readers, so getting involved in these events is a great way to get your children geared up to head back to school, too. From toddler yoga to bilingual storytime, and a number of contests for young readers and writers, you might be surprised just how many fun activities you can catch at the Houston Public Library this summer!
Check the Calendar for a Variety of Family-friendly Activities
You can check out the HPL’s online calendar to see the weekly activities being held at each of the system’s over 40 locations.
There is also still time to register your children in the HPL’s Summer Reading Program. This is an ongoing event that helps give kids extra incentive to spend part of their summer vacation reading! The program is open to kids up to 18-years-old and will run through August 1, 2016. You can register your kids in-person at any of the HPL locations, or online.
Kids can either read or listen to books, to earn prizes such as free books, a Houston Dynamo, Dash or Astros game ticket, a trophy, and more.
There are also prizes available for families, as well, including tickets to the health Museum, the Houston Museum of Natural Science Cockrell Butterfly Center, and more!
Other summer activities include a contest for budding writers, which ends July 30, 2016, and lunch at the library, which helps provide kids-in-need with healthy meals during the summer months.
