Smile Confidently Again with Modern Prosthetic Dentistry: Part One

Still unsure how to proceed, now that you’ve lost a tooth or even several? Dealing with tooth loss can be both deeply personal, and extremely frustrating. After all, how are you supposed to enjoy your meals, or more importantly your company around the dinner table, when you feel insecure because of your incomplete smile? Whether you’re currently dealing with gaps left by lost teeth, or struggling with a prosthetic that doesn’t fit the way it should, now is a great time to talk with your dentist about the modern prosthetic options for restoring your smile, both functionally and cosmetically.

What Are Your Options and Which Is Best?

Dentures remain a popular way to address lost teeth. That is because they are affordable, and can generally be completed quickly. They’re also designed to look natural, and require very little preparation no alterations to remaining teeth.

Partial dentures are designed to fit into a gap, often using a temporary adhesive to hold them in place, while full dentures are designed to fill an entire arch of teeth, either on the top or bottom of the mouth. These can often be worn comfortably, without the need for adhesive, thanks to the natural concaves of the mouth.

Of course, not all patients appreciate the temporary nature of dentures. For those desiring more security, particularly while chewing, dental bridges and dental implants make wonderful alternatives. In many cases, these can actually help to stabilize a denture, though other replacement teeth can often be used, such as full dental crowns.
